After the Republican U.S. Senate candidate denied a claim that he paid for an ex-abortion girlfriend's in 2009, Herschel Walker's son attacked him on Twitter on Monday.
"Herschel Walker's family members all urged him not to run for office because we were all aware of at least some of his past. Every single one," a conservative social media user named Christian Walker tweeted. "He made the decision to give us the middle finger and air out his dirty laundry in front of everyone while also lying about it. I'm through.
He said the Georgia Republican should stop "lying and making a mockery of us" because he and his mother would appreciate it.
He wrote, "You're not a 'family man' when you left us to beat up a group of women, threatened to kill us, and forced us to move over six times in six months to escape your violence.
Only tweeting, Herschel Walker replied, "I LOVE my son no matter what."
But his son's response, "You have 4 kids that we know of and you weren't in the house raising ONE of them, you were out cheating and lying," did little to appease him. If you cared about your children, you would be raising them rather than seeking office in the Senate to bolster your ego. Shortly after posting that tweet, he deleted it.
The 23-year-old previously supported his father's campaign and joined him on the campaign trail. He has hundreds of thousands of followers on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.
Cindy DeAngelis Grossman, the mother of Christian Walker, wed Herschel Walker from 1983 to 2002. Grossman has claimed that her ex-husband was physically abusive to her while they were dating, and she has detailed one instance in which she claims he threatened to blow her "brains out" by pointing a gun at her head.
According to court documents, Grossman obtained a protective order in 2005 after Walker repeatedly expressed a desire to kill her and her boyfriend.
Christian Walker's Twitter rant was released shortly after The Daily Beast reported that Herschel Walker had allegedly gotten a woman pregnant in 2009 while they were dating, encouraged her to have an abortion, and then paid for the procedure. In her statement to the media outlet, the woman said she came forward because "I just can't with the hypocrisy anymore." She also provided receipts.
On the campaign trail, Walker stated his support for a complete ban on abortions, presumably including situations where a pregnancy is the result of rape, incest, or poses a threat to the mother's health.
The incident is just the latest in a string of scandals for the Walker campaign, which has already dealt with claims that the former NFL star had several children in secret, had abused Grossman and threatened two other women, and had lied repeatedly about his qualifications.
It's not the first time a family member of a political candidate has spoken out against the candidate's campaign. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.six )'s siblings endorsed his opponent in a series of political advertisements in the 2018 election cycle, warning voters away from the extremist's character. Since his election again, they have persisted in their criticism.
Democrat Randy Bryce was the target of an attack ad that year in Wisconsin that featured his brother, a police officer, accusing him of "cop-hating rhetoric." Brother of Bryce declared he would support a Republican for president.
Additionally, Steve West's son and daughter criticised him for being racist after he won the Missouri state House primary but lost to the Democratic candidate in both 2018 and 2020. Both urged voters to reject his candidacy.
