A powerful message was given by music legend Willie Nelson to the relatives of one of the victims of the shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, earlier this year.

He addressed the parents who were attending the event: "To you folks there, the parents who are going through some incredible sad times: Remember that it's not something you get over, but it's something you will get through," he said. On Sunday, he had performed at a rally in Austin for Beto O'Rourke (D), a candidate for governor of Texas.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Nelson was speaking with the family of Jackie Cazares, a fourth-grader who was one of the 19 children and two adults killed in the Robb Elementary School shooting on May 24.

They are among the several dozen family members who support O'Rourke in his campaign against Governor Greg Abbott and his call for stricter gun control laws (R).

With songs like "Whiskey River" and "On The Road Again" as well as "Deep In The Heart Of Texas," Nelson played a 15-minute set that nodded to the crowd in his hometown.

The 2018 song "Vote 'Em Out" served as his call to action.

He sang, "The biggest gun we have is called the ballot box." Vote someone out if you don't like them being there.
